Shakes and Smoothies

Shakes and smoothies are a great way to add many vitamins and minerals to your daily diet. Let's face it, kale baby spinach leaves and beets aren't the best tasting foods especially for kids. But, they are so very important! I have found with my kids the best way to get them to consume more fruits and vegetables are through smoothies. It's a great way to mask the taste and still get the nutrition they need. Play around with different fruits and vegetables to find something your kids can enjoy. Make having a healthy diet fun and not such a chore.

Starting the Morning Off Right:

I like to have my shake or smoothie first thing in the morning. There are many reasons for this but the one that stands out most is it sets the tone for the day. When I wake up and start the day consuming healthy nutrient dense smoothies it makes me more conscious of the foods I eat throughout the day. It also helps with digestion and hydrates me after a long nights sleep. When you start the day with a win it will help set the tone for the day.

Energy:

The healthier your diet the more energy you will have. The more energy you have the better mood you will be in and the better quality of Life you will live. We live in a very demanding World. We have work, kids, practice, grocery shopping, chores, homework, cooking etc. When you poison your body with toxins and an unhealthy diet it has to work overtime to complete all the tasks at hand. This is one of the reasons why the majority of Americans are tired all the time. We are seeing more and more kids become overweight due to technology and poor diets. I am very passionate about changing this trend. And it all starts with diet!


Time:

As I mentioned above there is a lot expected of us throughout the day. We don't always have time to put together a nice big healthy breakfast for us and our Family. A quick and easy trick is to put your fruits and vegetables mixed in a container so all you have to do in the morning is throw it in your blender. This saves you time, gives you the energy you need and will hydrate you. You can put smoothies together for mid day snacks as well.


Nutrients:

Shakes and smoothies are packed with vitamins, mineral, good fats, fiber and antioxidants. I tend to make my smoothies with 3/4 vegetables and 1/4 fruits and seeds. I have been working on changing my mindset from worrying about the taste and focusing more on the nutritional value. This has helped me remove bad foods from my diet. When you start eating for health rather than the taste you will soon find that eating healthy isn't as difficult. Having a smoothie a day will improve you heart, brain and other organ's overall health, enhance your immune and digestive systems, load your body with antioxidants, controls your hunger, detoxifies the body, will help with hydration and much more.


Blender in the Kitchen:

I personally believe having a blender in the kitchen is a must. Eating healthy is not easy and is why it is so important to set yourself up for success. Make things easy and convenient as possible. One shoe does not fit all however, for my Family and I smoothies are a great addition to our healthy diets. We use a Ninja blender and have never had a problem cutting through anything. It also came with personal size blender bottles that make things even easier. Just add your fruits, vegetables and seeds, blend, stick a straw in it and you're on your way! I invite you to search for different smoothie recipes online and find ones that you and your Family enjoy. The easier you make eating healthy the better the chances you will stick with it.
